– It is, to say the least, mind-bending. Friday evening in Vancouver, with the world watching, Clara Hughes will lead Canada's delegation into the Opening Ceremonies. All around her, the Most High Mucky-Mucks of VANOC (Vancouver Organizing Committee) and the IOC will be patting themselves on the back. Meanwhile, Right to Play, the charity Hughes represents, the worthy cause to which she has given her all (including $10,000 after winning gold in Turin)? Right to Play is not welcome....

So far, the government has approved upwards of $113 Million in matching grants for the Earthquake Relief Efforts in Haiti. That means, CANADIANS donated to eligible charities at LEAST $113 Million - and the deadline for matching grants hasn't been reached yet. That means that likely by Friday: - $120 Million donated by Canadians to eligible charities specifically for Haiti Earthquake relief - $120 Million match by government (that is not taken from other allocations, so other...

VANCOUVER — Australia remained defiant over its colourful and controversial Boxing Kangaroo flag at the Winter Olympics athletes village on Saturday with the team locked in a stand-off with officials over its immediate future. The image, which is draped over two storeys of the village and is flanked by eight Australian national flags, shows a yellow kangaroo with red boxing gloves. Officials in the 45-strong Australian delegation here are adamant that it has been part of the...

I was under the impression that the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games was supposed to put the spotlight on Vancouver, B.C., and Canada. However, I have yet to see anything that even comes close to any of this representation at all. All of the official Olympic clothes and souvenirs have been made in China, Vietnam, or Indonesia, and we all know why: cheap labour. The official beer of the Olympics is Coors (American brand), and to add further insult, the chef chosen to impress all the VIPs who will...

Olympic chef renames his 'bison burgers' after McDonald’s objects VANCOUVER -- The chef at a First Nations food pavilion at the Winter Olympics says he had to rewrite his menu to purge the word "burger," after the McDonald's chain -- an Olympics sponsor -- objected. Chef Andrew George, who created the menu for the Four Host First Nations' pavilion, said organizers had to rewrite one of the menu items -- a trio of bison burgers -- after a complaint from the Golden Arches. His request approved, the CNN News photographer quickly used a cell phone to call the local airport to charter a flight. He was told a twin-engine plane would be waiting for him at the airport. Arriving at the airfield, he spotted a plane warming up outside a hanger. He jumped in with his bag, slammed the door shut, and shouted, 'Let's go'. The pilot taxied out, swung the plane into the wind and took off. Once in the air, the photographer instructed the pilot,...

So that's how he views the job of being PM of Canada - playing? Just playing at doing his job? So why the heck doesn't he go play hockey as he so dearly wants to? I suppose he can't, because he isn't good enough the same way he has proven he isn't good enough to be the Prime Minister of Canada. What - so if he was playing hockey and he didn't like the way the game was going he'd just pick up the puck, go home to Mommy. Just the way he prorogued parliament when things weren't...

I hate margarine. I love butter. Butter is 100% animal fat, so maybe not the best thing after a heart attack. But now they make margarine that is not hydrogenated oil (worse than animal fat for my money). The new soya and olive oil spreads are better than butter and the old margarine for heart/artery/cholesterol. But... they taste like... well, they don't taste like butter. So, the good folks at I Can't Believe It's Not Butter added buttermilk to margarine and it tastes (more) like...

More Olympic whitewash from the Political Pigs Welfare-cheque lineups and tent cities were identified months ago by the B.C. government as potential public-relations disasters during the Winter Olympics, according to a confidential risk-management plan. I heard about this last night on CNN. As a Traditional Woman who participates in fasting and sweat lodge ceremonies, I was appalled at how there are people out there who take our traditional ceremonies and mock them by converting them into a money-making scheme. Those people died and others were injured because of James Arthur Ray's actions. A fast and sweat lodge ceremony done properly and done with humility and guidance from the spirits, does not harm people. It is healing to participants....

Hello all - got a question. How often do near miss mid-air collisions happen and are they reported anywhere? Do they make the news? I witnessed one tonight around 8:30pm. I was in the back yard BBQ'ing. My friend gasps and points to the sky. I look up to see a large passenger jet coming into Pearson from the right going left and a smaller plane going out from left to right. They almost hit. It's freaking me out. Some of the debris would have landed on the house and there's a few schools...

Try to understand the Stephen Harper that is hidden in the shadows: (From and email I received) One of the principal thrusts of corporate globalization and its ideology is the development of the national security state. In the minds of the gurus of this global system, the only proper roles for government are security -- policing, the armed forces, intelligence gathering, prisons -- the banking system and the general facilitation of the actions of private capital. Ideally, the rest would be...

Mandamus is a judicial remedy which is in the form of an order from a superior court to any government, subordinate court, corporation or public authority to do or forbear from doing some specific act which that body is obliged under law to do or refrain from doing.
