Here is an interesting Auctionbytes article. A idea of what core search for all will be like ???

eBay Reveals It Conducted a Test of All Stores in Core

Here is the start of the article.

Sellers who are wondering what impact eBay's pending changes will have on their own business may want to check their October sales data. In a podcast interview with AuctionBytes on Friday afternoon, eBay executive Todd Lutwak revealed that eBay had put all of the SIF inventory in Core for a period of time in the fall.

On that web page, click on the podcast for live interview. 22 minutes, don't fall asleep.

And as one person comments, listen to all the You know from eBay representative.

I only mention the "you know" because "No, we don't know! eBay never tells us much!"

So there are no rolling search blackouts apparently. Check your Oct Nov sales. Good or Bad.

Remember the infamous eBay search crash Sat Nov 21, 2009. In the Auctionbytes podcast, the eBay rep says the test were going on in Oct or Nov 2009.

Here was the announcement from eBay regarding the down time.

So you're thinking that was an "oopsie"?

I am guessing that they were doing the new search in full test in November. Testing to see how well it worked. Either it failed because of some bug or the Christmas traffic overwhelmed their servers. Or even perhaps they had removed the new search from the servers during the week having finished their tests and it somehow failed with the old back in place.

Sort of like a plane crashing because one screw was forgotten to be replaced during regular maintenance.

I definitely think there is a direct relationship between the announced testing and the crash of search. The crash would seem to prove that they were testing the new search. I have read some posts that think that eBay was just saying they had tested it in Oct or Nov with good results in increased sales so that the current discontent over the changes will slow down a bit.
